Als Hommage an diesen einmaligen Berufszweig versteht sich der Picus als Holzspielzeugmacher in 2016 und soll an die Tradition dieses Handwerkes erinnern. Den Beruf des Holzspielzeugmachers gibt es seit 1936 und nach 1945 nur in der ehemaligen DDR. Seit 1996 ist der Holzspielzeugmacher als Ausbildungsberuf für ganz Deutschland anerkannt. Die Ausbildung findet ausschließlich in der Holzspielzeugmacher- und Drechslerschule in Seiffen statt.
